Samuel KNIGHT (along with James KNIGHT (brother), Thomas TYLER, Jane STAMFIELD on 25 May 1814 were charged with break, enter & steal at the business premises of a fur skin dresser. Their defence was that they dealt in this trade. Tyler found not guilty but the others Guilty, death sentence. Samuel and James KNIGHT transported to Australia, Life Sentences, per the ship “Baring” 1815.
Samuel Knight - a clothier, married man with 2 children. Aged 49 yrs. Said to have come to London from the west country.
Samuel subsequently transferred to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania), Australia, with his son in 1828 to Port Dalrymple (now George Town) - xxx machinery for Simeon Lord at Sydney. Ref. noted in Convict Conduct Book, VDL.
