John Lackman was transported for breaking open a chest at the house of Darnel Clark at Gosort and stealing six notes, and various other articles. When about to be apprehended, to avoid detection, he crammed the notes into his mouth and endeavoured to swallow them.
John Lackman was German, and was tried on 8/1/1816. No details of trial found. Colonial Secretary: LACKMAN, John. Per "Fame", 1817 14/3/1817: On list of convicts disembarked from the "Fame" and forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6005; 4/3496 p.54) 22/1/1823: On list of persons who obtained certificates of freedom during the last week; listed as Larkman (Reel 6039; 4/424 p.122) 18-29/1/1824: Employed by Campbell and Street on cedar party at Port Stephens. Illegally at large at Newcastle (Reel 6067; 4/1810 pp.20-3) 10/8/1825: Prisoner sent to Port Macquarie per "Mermaid" (Reel 6019; 4/3864 p.257) 10/8/1825: On list of convicts transported to Port Macquarie per "Mermaid". SATURDAY, MAY 28, 1825. John Lackman, was indicted for stealing two towels, the property of John Dallas Guilty to be transported for one year. The same prisoner, on a second indictment for stealing a dump, and a quarter dollar, the property of John Dallas Guilty-to be further transported, for one year, from the expiration of His former sentence. 22/1/1828: COF No date of death or marriage found.
