Per "Earl Spencer", 1813 1823 Jan Servant of Harriet Robinson; testimony as to his character for a ticket of leave (Reel 6026; 4/1715 pp.239-40) 1823 Jan 29 On list of persons who obtained tickets of leave during the last week (Reel 6039; 4/424 p.131) 1824 Nov 2 Re permission to marry at Windsor (Reel 6013; 4/3512 p.692) ------------------------------------------------------------ Jan 1823. We certify that Miles Lake, a convict for Life who came by the Ship Earl Spencer which arrived in the year 1813, has not been convicted of any crime or Misdemeanour in these Districts but is to our certain belief an honest sober and industrious character having served faithfully Henry Howell of Sydney from 1814to 1818, Richard Rustin from 1818 to 1820 and Harriet Robinson (all of these districts) from that period to January 1823. ASSIZES. At these assizes, which commenced Thursday the 16th, the following-prisoners took their trials In the County Gaol:— Miles Lake (aged 35), and Benjamin (aged 34), were found guilty of stealing from the house of James Finch, frame-work-knitter, Mansfield, the 7th May last, upwards of 30£. in money; and received sentence death: Lake was afterwards reprieved, for execution.  (Joseph Wright (aged 20), was admitted evidence the above case; and Thomas Revill (aged 22), was also admitted evidence another indictment  against Renshaw, for having, on Saturday evening in the summer of 1810, stolen a sheep from close the parish Mansfield, the property of Isaac Dodsley.]  Stamford Mercury, 24 July 1812. Of the prisoners in the county gaol 5 were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death; viz. Miles Lake, aged 35 for stealing out of the house of Jas. Finch, frame-work knitter, of Mansfield (in company with Joseph Wright,  who was admitted evidence) club box, containing upwards of thirty pounds in money; Nottingham Journal, 25 July 1812. … county gaol on Wednesday last, under the care of Mr. Wright, and assistants, in order to be conveyed to Portsmouth, viz. Gervas Copley, Miles Lake, and Wm. Stanley, under sentence of transportation for their natural lives, and George Spray, under sentence of transportation for 14 years Nottingham Journal, 26 Sept 1812.
