Hereford Times Herefordshire, England 30 Mar 1850: TRIALS OF PRISONERS Yarpole.—Burglary.— Edward Lane, 24, and Samuel Lane, 18, who could both read and write imperfectly, were charged with having, during the night of the 30th of January, with force of arms, burglariously broken and entered the dwelling-house of Edward Callows, and stolen one writing-desk, and other articles, the property of the prosecutor....they were sentenced to ten years' transportation. No ship found for Edward Lane. 5/4/1854: TOL 5/7/1856: CP C0mments: Farmer. Samuel was a labourer at Toodyay and Balgart, a prospector, he employed 9 TOL men between 1856-1860. Self appointed warden at Blackboy Bill goldfields, Bolgart in 1897. Small farmer at Wyening. 10/1/1920: Samuel died and was buried at Toodyay Old Newcastle Public Cemetery Toodyay, WA.




Born to Thomas and Ann Landon (Lane) and christened on the 24th November, 1830. He was found Guilty of burglary on the 23rd of March, 1850 and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in Australia. His registration number was 2786. He was aged 23 At the time. In 1906 Sam was living in ‘Swan’ Newcastle. He died in 1920 at Wyening and was buried in Toodyay.
