Jesse LARKIN was convicted at Maidstone, Kent, England on 19 Oct 1847 for stealing a gelding horse. 1st conviction. 10 yr trnsportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Nile' arriving 3 Oct 1850. Aged 23 yrs; labourer; Protestant; can read & write; 5'6 1/4" height; single man. Native place of birth: Cranbrooke, Kent. Father: Jesse (in America) Brothers: Daniel & George Sisters: Sarah, Carol, Emily, Eliza, & Ellen (ref for family details - convict indent) VDL: 15 Oct 1850 - Ticket of Leave granted. 1851 - at Sorell, VDL. 20 June 1854: Application for permission to marry - to Mary LALOR (per 'John Calvin'). Approved. (ref. 52/1/7 pg 259) 21 Aug 1854: Marriage to Mary LALOR, at Spring Bay, VDL.
