Ellen LEAHY (proper name CAREY) was convicted at Kings County, Ireland on 1 July 1850 for setting fire to a house (circumstances in Ireland at this time of history need to be taken into account). 15 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' arriving 29 May 1851. Aged 20 yrs; country servant; 5'1" height; Roman Catholic; fair complexion; red hair; grey eyes. Native place of birth: Kings County, Ireland. Brother: Daniel Sister: Mary Colony of VDL: Various service work placements in the Hobart district. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 14 Feb 1853 - Ellen LEAHY (per Blackfriar ship) to Isaac HAYLETT (per 'London' ship). Approved. ref. Con 52/1/6) MARRIAGE 14 March 1853: Ellen LEAHY, aged 26yrs married Isaac HAYLETT, aged 42 yrs, labourer. At St. Georges Church of England, Hobart. (ref. 37/1/12 no. 297) 5 Sept 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 9 June 1857: Conditional Pardon approved. CHILDREN: 10 Oct 1857 - Ellen HAYLET born at Hobart. Father - Isaac HAYLET, drayman. Mother - Ellen HAYLET formerly LAHEE, Argyle St. Hobart. 2 July 1860 - Elizabeth HAYLET born at Hobart. Father - Isaac HAYLET, labourer. Mother - Ellen HAYLET, formerly LAHE (indexed as LAKE), Veteran's Row, Hobart. 6 Sept 1869 - Charles HAYLETT born at Hobart. Father - Isaac HAYLETT, drayman. Mother - Ellen HAYLETT formerly LAHEY. DEATH OF HUSBAND: Isaac HAYLETT died 10 April 1889 aged 77 yrs, at the New Town Paupers Establishment.
