Surgeons Journal Folios 30-32: case no 21, Mary Leary, aged 19, single, convict, taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, graviditas et partus. Put on list, 16 April 1828. Sent with her infant 29 June 1828 to colonial hospital at Hobert Town.

Mary's son was born 18/5/1828 but died at the Colonial hospital in Hobart a few weeks after arrival, he was 6 weeks old. Mary was listed as 23 years old on arrival, she was 5'1½" tall, fresh complexion, brown to auburn hair, light hazel eyes, much freckled on the arms, literate, single. Gaol report: A prostitute. Mary was assigned to Mr Thomas Marzetti. 202/4/1831: Permission to marry James Lane (Governor Ready 1827). 15/6/1831: Married at St Mathew's Church, New Norfolk. Children: William Lane (1829 - ????) Mary Ann Lane (1832 - 1902) Jessica Lane (1834 - 1919) Sarah Lane (1836 - 1844) Hannah Lane (1839 - 1909) Thomas Lane (1841 - 1897) James Lane Jnr (1844 - 1905) George John Lane (1846 - 1905) 6/12/1834: Free Certificate. 23/12/1885: Mary died of 'Debility' and was buried with James at the Church of England graveyard at Ouse.
