Cause of death; Premature birth 1866 - 24 Jan. Tried at Hobart Town for Murder and found quilty. 1866 - ADMISSION OF CHILDREN TO THE QUEEN'S ORPHAN SCHOOL Name of children: Leathley, George Leathley, Anastasia Leathley, David Record Type: Health & Welfare Description: Application for admission by A. B Jones Esq. Police Magistrate. Father George Leathley 1866 under sentence. Certificate of Freedom; 22 July 1856. Trade; Blacksmith Catherine Mannon (aka Maher) - 1866 under sentence of 2 months hard labour. Ship; Earl Grey John's Brother; David is in the colony January 1866 Property: Queen's Orphan School 1867 - Leathley, Anastasia was taken by the Police from the house of Mr. Berry Licensee. left there by her mother. Mr. Berry having beaten her most cruelly. Police sent Anastasia to the General Hospital for treatment. NEWSPAPER report of the trial: 20 July, 1843—Bradford Observer, p7: “BEFORE MR. JUSTICE CRESSWELL. George Leathley, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of horse-stealing at Leeds; and Valentine Ackroyd and Henry Jagger, for a highway robbery at Northowram, were sentenced to be transported for life.” (https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/) [Northowram is a village in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England that stands to the east of Halifax on the north side of Shibden valley. It’s about 5 miles south-west of Bradford.] Note: Valentine Ackroyd and Henry Jagger were also aboard the Blundell.
