John Leddy was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The Australia Indentures state that John Leddy was 44 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Meath. He was an indoor servant. John was convicted of stealing money at Meath on 12 October 1835 and sentenced to 7 years. He had one prior conviction and served one month. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 6 inches; complexion dark ruddy and a little pock pitted; hair brown mixed with grey and eyes grey. Transport number 68. Prisoner number 36-1873. Received ticket of leave on 18 July 1841 (number 41/1429) at ? waters. Ticket of leave pass (number 42//727) altered to Merton with Mr Robertson. Received certificate of freedom on 15 February 1843 (number 45/583) at Merton.
