Summer Assizes. Henry Bolton, 24, and Samuel Lemon, 17, charged with having stolen from the parish of Singleton, two geldings, one saddle, two bridles ... Sussex Advertiser, 16 Aug 1824. Calendar presented for trial prisoners, sixteen of whom were capitally convicted and received sentence of Death, viz. :—Henry Bolton, aged 24, and Samuel Lemon, 17, both labourers, for stealing from a stable at Singleton, two horses, (valuable hunters,) a saddle, two bridles, and other things, the property of Walter Burrell, ~ one of our County Representatives; and a coat, the property of George Norris, hostler at a public house, where the robbers stopped after they had stolen the horse. Sussex Advertiser, 23 Aug 1824. On Saturday se'nnighr, a reprieve arrived at Horsham, for Henry Bolton and Samuel Lemon, who at our late Assizes were condemned to be hanged for horse-stealing, and left for execution.
