Note: Owen's wife died the next day. Owen LEONARD was transported to Australia per the 'Hyderabad' 1845. First stationed at Norfolk Island (off the east coast of New South Wales) at the penal settlement. Transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Tory' in 1847. Aged 67yrs; a tailor; 5'2"; Roman Catholic; can read & write a little; sallow complexion; grey hair; grey eyes. Native Place- Co. Tyrone Widower, children. Note on record - "children in service". Sisters: Anne, Mary & Rose - at native place Various work assignments in the Colonies. No record of any misconduct. Ticket of Leave granted 29 August 1854 Conditional Pardon approved 16 Sept 1856 Died 20 July 1860, aged 80 years (decay of nature), tailor, district of Campbell Town, Tasmania. On 28th July 1844 at Peter Street, Liverpool, Leonard cut his wife's throat with a razor as he believed that she was 'in terms of more than ordinary intimacy' according to the Liverpool Mail.
