Theft; simple larceny (from 1827). 23rd October 1828 Text type Trial account Defendants ELIZABETH LESLIE Offences Theft > Simple larceny Session Date 23rd October 1828 Reference Number t18281023-242 Verdicts Guilty Punishments Transportation 2175. ELIZABETH LESLIE was indicted for stealing, on the 17th of October , 24 yards of moreen, value 20s. , the goods of Charles John Brooks . WILLIAM STANLEY . I am in the service of Mr. Charles John Brooks, a draper , who lives in Oxford-street . On the 17th of October, I heard a rustling at the door; I looked and saw the prisoner with a piece of moreen under her arm, trying to conceal it - it had been against the door, and secured by some gros de Naples upon it, and pinned; she went half-way across the road, and I took her with it, walking slowly - I brought her back. WILLIAM WILLIAMS . I am an officer. I took the prisoner, and produce the property.(Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defence. I was intoxicated, and throw myself on the mercy of the Court. GUILTY . Aged 44. Transported for Seven Years .
