Proceedings of the Old Bailey ELLEN LEWIS, Theft > simple larceny, 1st December 1831. 258 ELLEN LEWIS was indicted for stealing, on the 16th of November , 2 pairs of shoes, value 4s., and 1 apron, value 2d. , the goods of Bridget Magner . ROBERT ASHBY . I am a Police-constable. I took the prisoner on the 17th of November, on account of her having sold my wife a duplicate; while we were at the office the prosecutor came, and claimed the apron, and afterwards the shoes which the prisoner wore: she at first denied that the apron was the prosecutrix's, but when she claimed the shoes she said she had lent them to her. BRIDGET MAGNER . I live in Harris-street, Marylebone . The prisoner lodged with me one night - she got up first in the morning, and went out; I then missed my apron and shoes.(Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner. Half a dozen people lodged in the same room; it was a wet evening - the landlady told me to go there to sleep, and she lent me these things GUILTY .
