Mary LEYNE was convicted at Kerry, Ireland on 15 July 1850 for arson - burning a house. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' arriving 29 May 1851. Gaol Report: "1st conviction. Quiet." Ship Surgeon's Report: "Very good" Single woman; country servant; aged 20yrs; 5'; Roman Catholic; fresh complexion; brown hair; grey eyes. Native Place: Co. Kerry, Ireland. Father: John (ref. Convict Indent record) Brothers: James, John & Tim " " Sister: Assigned to work services in Van Diemen's Land. Clear Conduct Record. 7 Dec 1852: Application for Permission to Marry. 3 Jan 1853: Marriage to William CONROY (transported per the 'Blenheim'). (ref. notated on Conduct Record & Registration under name 'Lyons' 37/1/12 no. 659) St. Joseph's Church, Hobart. 8 Aug 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 25 Nov 1856: Conditional Pardon approved.
