County of Antrim Assizes. Lilly McGraw was indicted for aiding, abetting, and assisting Edward Barton in violating the person of Mary Ester, at the townland of Cross (near Ballymena), on the 29th September last. In our paper Saturday stated that the charge against the prisoner, who had been on trial on Friday, but was acquitted on account of an informality in the indictment, was one of the most atrocious and aggravated kind; and the facts, as brought out on the trial, fully warrant the allegation. The details are altogether unfit for publication. The Jury returned verdict of guilty, and she was sentenced be transported for life. Edward Harton left the country before he could be got hold of, and has not l»een heard of since. Lilly Mcgraw was charged with having aided Edward Hartyn in committing violence on the person of Mary Essler, a child about nine years old, at Ballyclug, on 29th September last. The prisoner and Hartyn, it appeared, were servants in the house of the child's lather; and in the temporary absence of its parents, an opportunity was taken for the commission of of their crime. The evidence was clear and conclusive; and the jury, after a brief consultation returned a verdict of guilty. His Lordship afterwards sentenced the wretched prisoner, who was quite a young girl, to transportation for life, being the utmost punishment which the law inflicts in such cases.
