Reference Number: t18420103-573 Offence: Theft > simple larceny Verdict: Guilty > no_subcategory Punishment: Transportation SAMUEL LINTON was indicted for stealing, on the 31st of December, 1 dead goose, value 6s., the goods of Hector Audlin. HECTOR AUDLIN (through an interpreter.) I am a poulterer, and live in Grafton-street, Soho. On the evening of the 31st of December I was in a house opposite my shop—I saw the prisoner take a goose, wrap it up in his apron, and go away with it—it was on a board inside the shop—I went after him, and took him with the goose in his apron. ANDREW VALLANCE (police-sergeant C 11.) The prosecutor gave the prisoner into my custody, with a dead goose—here are the feet of it. GUILTY . Aged 14.— Transported for Seven Years. Samuel Henry Linton was listed as 14 years old on arrival in VDL but was 16 or 17 years old according to his birth date. At the time of his conviction he was listed as a 'Labourer/shoemaker imperfect'. Father: William Linton Mother: Ann Samuel was 4’9 ¾” tall, could read and write, single, protestant, fair complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes. 23/11/1847: TOL 19/3/1849: Certificate. 12/1/1852: Married Mary Ann Sheehan at St George’s Church, Hobart – they had 12 children. Mary Ann was born in 1834 and died 25/1/1882. 25/7/1855: Convicted of uttering a forged note for £5 at Hobart Town – sentenced to 7 years and was sent to Port Arthur for 2 years. 20/1/1857: Pass Holder 19/1/1858: TOL 26/8/1889: Samuel Henry Linton, 53, Bootmaker, widowed, married Ann Webber, 50, a widow at Hobart. 23/1/1906: Samuel died at 236 Liverpool Street, Hobart, of Senile Decay.
