Colonial Secretary index. LOCKEY, Thomas. Per "Earl Spencer", 1813 1822 Oct 30 Servant to John Redman. Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3221; 4/1866 p.52) 1822 Nov 15 Servant to John Redman of Sydney. Application for a ticket of leave and testimony as to character (Reel 6026; 4/1715 pp.75-6) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 26 Nov 1818. Petition for mitigation of sentence. The humble memorial of Thomas Lockey Most respectfully sheweth That your memorialist arrived in this Colony in the Ship Earl Spencer, Mitchell master, in the year 1813 under sentence for years and is now 11 years a Prisoner of the Crown and during that time has conducted himself with an unimpeached character, Of which the Masters he has served under will bear testimony. This year memorialist served 3 years of the said time with William Wright, and 5 years with John Redman, who is his present Master. Your memorialist therefore begs that your Honor will be pleased to take his case into your kind consideration, and grant your memorialist such indulgence as your Honor may deem proper. And your memorialist will ever pray, Sydney, 30 Oct 1822. (signed) John Redman. I beg leave to say that the memorialist has served me for the ….of one year as an industrious honest man. (Signed) A. Byrne. -------------------------------------------------------------- We hereby Certify that Thomas Lackey has not been convicted of any crime or misdemeanour in this Colony, but is to our certain belief an honest, sober and industrious character, having faithfully served Andrew Byrne, residing in Sydney from November 1813 to November 1814. William Wright, in Sydney aforesaid, from November 1814 to November 1817, and Mr John Redman of Sydney aforesaid, from November 1817 to 13 November 1822, and now resides with the latter. Dated 15 Nov 1822.

The business of the Wilts Assizes commenced Monday s’ennight, before Mr Justice Chamber and Mr Baron Graham, and was concluded on Wednesday. … Thomas Lockey, indicted for breaking into the dwelling-house of Daniel Bishop, of Buttermore, labourer, and stealing a promissory for 50s. Guilty- Death. Oxford University and City Herald, 25 July 1812
