Denis Long, for stealing in Great George's Street, a loose coat, the property of John This was a street robbery- coat had been lying on car, when the prisoner cast his it. Long said, that his hand came in contact with it by the merest accident, he was passing by the car, the fellow’s leg slipped, and   as. he was sinking in the mire, he laid hold on the coat to prevent him from sinking deeper. Guilty—to be transported for 7 years. Cork Constitution, 8 April 1828.

The Convict Indentures state that Dennis Long was 23 years old. He could read and write; he was single; religion Roman Catholic and a native of Country Cork. His occupation was stonemason and plaisterer. He was convicted of stealing a coat on 5 April 1828. He was sentenced to 7 years and had no prior convictions. Physical attribute 5 feet 8 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy and pock pitted; hair brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 71. He was assigned to Mr Webber, Parramatta River.
