Convict Notes

Catherine Lawlor and Elizabeth Long, for stealing a brass skillet from John Young, of Patrick street. George Smith, pawn-broker, stated that Long presented the article at his office, in rather a suspicious manner, consequence of which and seeing Lawlor who was also present, endeavour to escape, he secured both, and committed them. Benjamin Roberts, boy, in Mr. Young’s employment, proved that both prisoners went into the shop, and asked for saucepan; showed them one, but they did not approve of it. They then went to where the brass skillets lay.— Witness identified the prisoners; both prisoners ware found Guilty. —To be transported for seven years. Catherine Lawlor—Well, Lord, when we come back, I’ll bring you handsome monkey. (Laughter.) Southern Reporter, 31 March 1829.
