James LUCAS was convicted at Middlesex, London on 6 Dec 1827 for stealing lead. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Woodford' arriving 1828. James stated he was last employed at Turner & Edwards, sawmill at Shepherd's Fields - it was burnt down. Mother: Jane LUCAS at Stepney Green. Clear conduct record in the Colony of VDL. 1833: Ticket of Leave granted. Jan 1835: Free Certificate (n.b. there are several convicts by this name in the Colony around this time)
