The ship named 'Providence' was built in Calcutta, India in 1808. 649 tons. The 1811 voyage brought many convicts from Ireland to Australia. 73rd Regiment. Also several free settlers. 5-6 deaths on voyage. The ship was lastly scuttled at St. Martin's, Isle of Scilly in 1833.

LUDAM Hannah (Ludam) was born about 1796. She produced a child. She was tried at Kingston upon Hull Quarter Sessions Yorkshire on 13 7 1820, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict with her son on 7 1 1822 after a voyage of 7months on PROVIDENCE; she was 4'11.5" freckled complexion dark hair hazel eyes. She married secondly Charles (Beaz/sley his second relationship) with permission on 8 12 1823 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She is recorded in 1828 as Hannah (Bensley) Free by servitude with her family at Windsor.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] [1.John (Ludam) was born in 1820. He was tried w/1other for highway robbery, w/2others on 11 7 1793, & stealing money of James (Seyer) & robbery of a store at Old Bailey on 6 12 1793, sentenced to hanging reprieved to Life, held at London Gaol Delivery & hulk STANISLAW & arrived in NSW on 18 5 1798 after a voyage of 8months on BARWELL. He was Free by Servitude by 1806 & was issued his Ticket of Leave in 1806. He receieved his Conditional Pardon on 11 7 1811. He associated firstly with Mary (Thomas) whom he married later on 4 9 1815 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He is recorded in 1828 as Charles (Bensley) with his family as an innkeeper at Windsor. He died on 30 11 1837 age60 father of 12children. She is recorded in 1828 as Mary (Bensley) with her parents at Windsor. She died on 1 7 1906 age82. 2.Kesiah (Beasley) was born on 11 5 1827 & baptised on 24 6 1827 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She is recorded in 1828 as Kesia (Bensley) with her parents at Windsor. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref B1014] Bensley, Hannah, 32 FS, Providence, 1821. With husband Charles [Ref B1013] and 5 children (3 step children and 2 of her own). Charles was an innkeeper at Windsor.




On August 23 1842, Hannah remarried, to John Forrester. John had been born in the colony and was the son of Robert Forrester (First Fleet Convict, Scarborough, 1788) and Elizabeth Ramsay (Second Fleet Convict, Lady Juliana, 1790). John and Hannah did not have children.




Hannah was tried at York, Kingston on Hull on 13 Jul 1820 and was sentenced to seven years transportation. At age 25 she was 4 feet 11 and a half inches tall, had freckles, dark hair and hazel eyes. She arrived in the colony on 7 Jan 1822 on the ship 'Providence'. Hannah's son John born 1820 came to the colony with her. He took the name of Beasley and Leadum or Ludam. Hannah sought permission to marry from the Colonial Secretary on, or it was granted on 6 Nov 1823. She married Charles Beasley (Convict, Barwell, 1798) on December 8 1823 at Windsor. She and Charles had 4 children. Charles died November 30 1837.
