Martha can be located in the 1811 and 1814 Muster records as Edited by Carol Baxter. 1811: [Ref 3669] Luke, Martha, Alexander, tried September 1805, Old Bailey, 7 years (PRO n0155). 1814: [Ref 3017] Martha Luke, Alexander, Off Stores. 3 children Off Stores. Lives with James Ridley.




Martha appears to have had a de facto relationship with James Ridley (Convict, Barwell, 1798) starting around 1804. The Old Bailey transcript mentions that she was married but separated and with two childen, one of whom had died. Martha and James had three children, Sarah Luke 1808, John Luke 1810 and James Luke 1813. Martha died in 1815.

MARTHA LUKE was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 3d of August, a hat, value 2 s. a frock, value 2 s. and a petticoat, value 1 s. the property of William Watts. ................. GUILTY , aged 30. Transported for seven years . Second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Baron Sutton.




Martha arrived per Alexander the reference to the prison hulk - Fortune - refers to her being held on board prior to her transportation on the Alexander.
