1835 Muster: Was a Constable. 23/1/1835: Permission to marry Sarah Perkins (free). 23/2/1835: Married Sarah Dorothy Perkins at New Norfolk, Tas., Children: 25/11/1835: Isabella Margaret 15/2/1837: Ann ????/1840: Mary 23/6/1843: Caroline 11/12/1845: Elizabeth 2/3/1849: Sarah 22/5/1869: Sarah Lumsden, aged 56, wife of a labourer, died of cancer, at New Norfolk. 25/12/1869: Married Margaret Brennan at New Norfolk - James was 51, a mariner, and a widower - Margaret 26. Children: 2/11/1869: Arthur - Father is listed as George Lumsden. 23/8/1871: Ethel Blanch 7/11/1872: James Hedker 2/2/1874: Marion Edith 18/11/1875: Ada Margaret 23/11/1875: Margaret Lumsden, 24??, died at New Norfolk of Phthisis (TB). 2/3/1885: James Lumsden died of Senilis at New Norfolk, he was 74, a fisherman.


1833, 1 April: James Lumsden, 22, sentenced to transportation for life for robbery, was received aboard the Justitia prison hulk at Woolwich. He was sent from there for transportation on 10 June (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). Note: James Watt, 22, and John Low, 22, were received aboard the Justitia on the same day as James Lumsden. Watt was also sent to VDL per the Isabella. 1833: On arrival in VDL, James Lumsden was listed as single. He said he had been transported for highway robbery and had a previous conviction. 1838, 1 November: He received a Ticket of Leave. 1852, 17 February: His Conditional Pardon was approved (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-28$init=CON31-1-28p117).
