sessions court ...location not announced SENTENCED: wed 23 FEB 1821 ...Patrick Woulfe and David Lunt, for stealing a mahogany desk, the property of James Kenny. Esq. on the 10th of February ; this was another instance of| the ill effects resulting from servants being neglectful in fastening windows, Mr. Kenny proved having it in the parlour the night he missed it, and that there was no other way which it could be taken but through the window. John Haydon, Patrol Constable, saw the prisoners in company with a third man, between 7 and 8 o'clock on Sunday morning, about a fortnight ago; they went into Mary’s-lane, where they had stopped at the door a cellar; witness approached them, two ran off, but the third, Lunt, who had the desk, went into the cellar; witness followed him, got the desk, and made him go op the cellar steps, when he ran off and joined his companions; witness went in the evening to the cellar, accompanied by Peace Officer Campbell, and there apprehended both the prisoners. The prisoners produced three females from Mary's, lane; the landlady, her washerwoman, and a young girl, to prove they were not the persons ; but the Jury giving more credit to the witness on the other side, found both guilty ; and the Recorder, after stating the determination of the Court to use vigorous measures to check this mode of robbery, sentenced both to be transported for seven years. They are both notorious characters....reported Saunders's News-Letter - Wednesday 07 March 1821 pg3
