He was tried for grand larceny, forging name, at York Assizes on 9 7 1796, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 5 1798 after a voyage of 8months on BARWELL. He was Free by Servitude by 1807. He married Ann (Jackson) on 13 8 1810 at St Annes CofE Hunters Hill Windsor Hawkesbury (or St Matthews). He is recorded in 1828 with Conditional Pardon Life sentence parish clerk with his family at Kissing Point. He died on 10 6 1859 age84 at Benevolent Asylum Sydney. In the colony, Paul married Ann Jackson (Convict, 1806, “William Pitt”) on 13th August 1810 at Windsor, Hawkesbury, New South Wales. The couple had 5 children between 1807 and 1821.
He had been convicted at York Assizes for a term of 7 years on 9 Jul 1796. The Ship Barwell sailed from Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, and arrived in Sydney, NSW on 18 May 1798 under Master John Cameron. His crime was grand larceny - he forged a name on a bill of exchange in a merchant house in Hull where he worked as a clerk. Because of his literacy he worked as a schoolmaster and clerk as well as a carpenter.
