Medical journal of the Lord Auckland, by John Moody, Surgeon Superintendent: Copy of the sick list: "Folio 14: case no. 8, Mary Leyden [sic], aged 24, Widow; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, constipation and sea sickness; put on sick list 24 October 1848, discharged 12 November 1848 cured... Folios 27-28: Surgeon’s general remarks, two hundred convicts, fortyfour children and thirteen free settlers were embarked on board at Kingstown on 4&5 October 1848, apparently in tolerable state of health, however they soon began to suffered from slight catarrh affections... He also stated that it was no uncommon thing for the Irish convicts to go from ten to sixteen days without having their bowels opened."
