Mary was convicted at Liverpool of stealing money from her Mistress. 7 yr Transportation sentence. She departed on the 'Atwick' on 30 Sep 1837, arriving Hobart, van Diemen's Land 24 Jan 1838. She was a dressmaker and nursemaid, aged 17yrs, 5'0 1/2", fair complexion, lght brown hair, lght grey eyes. Upon arrival she was assigned to George Meredith at Swanport and later to J. Gordon at Sorell (1841 Muster). 09/10/1838: Disobedience of orders, gross misconduct - admonished and returned to service. 02/07/1839: Gross misconduct - 6mths crime class at Cascades Female Factory, Hobart. 18/10/1841: Absent without leave from Master Christie - 1mth wash tubs at Cascade Female Factory. 23/06/1842 Ticket of Leave. 03/07/1844 Free by Servitude. 1846 Certificate of Freedom no. 463. Married Richard Kemp on 18/06/1842 at St. George's church, Sorell. (ref. 1717/1842-37 Hobart district). Mary aged 22yrs, Richard aged 21yrs. Children: Thomas b. 27/10/1846 Richmond district William b. 27/12/1848 Spring Bay.
