Convict Notes




William was origianally sentenced to death but was reprieved. He was born in Bedford shire. Upon arrival in Australia he was 5'4", with blue eyes and dark brown hair. He had a fresh complexion and a dimple to the left cheek. He was assigned to Charles Tompson at South Creek who owned the dairy farm 'Clydesdale" on Richmond Rd, Richmond NSW. On 26th January 1827 he received a ticket of leave for helping capture the escaped convict, John Halpin. On 4th February 1828 the leave was cancelled because William was caught harbouring government servants in his house who were drinking on a Sunday.
