Mary DERRICK (or MacGOVERIN/McGOVERIN) was convicted at Liverpool, England on 7 July 1834 for stealing money from the person. Co-convicted were Ann Ryder & Margaret Jones (they got 3 mths prison). 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'New Grove' arriving 27 March 1835. Stated her real name was "Derrick" but had been living with a man named "McGOVERRN". Aged 29 yrs; plain cook & house servant; 4'11" height; fresh complexion, freckled; black hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Longford, Ireland. VDL: Numerous notes of misconduct and punishments. At one time sent to the House of Correction & Female Factory, Launceston. 23 Nov 1836: Marriage to Charles PARSONS (convict per 'Enchantress'), at Launceston with consent of Govt. (ref. 36/1/3 no. 3469) 1838: assigned to Mr. Parsons. Accused of breaking her husband's property and he refused to have her back. 11 Aug 1843: Ticket of Leave granted. 22 May 1846: Conditional Pardon, for the Australian Colones, approved.
