Murder. —On the evening of Friday last a quarrel took place at the village of Carnemcy near Ahoghil, between two parties that had been before the petit sessions the day, which, melancholy to relate, ended in the death of a very fine young woman, aged 27 years. An inquest was held upon the body before James Murray, Esq., Coroner, when after the examination many witnesses, and of Dr. Black, of Ballymena, who examined the body, the jury were of unanimous opinion that the deceased died from would inflicted with a sharp instrument between the left shoulder blade and spine, which penetrated the lungs. Verdict—wilful murder against Margaret Mackerel. She has been fully committed. Belfast Commercial Chronicle, 23 May 1838. County of Antrim Assizes Margaret Mackell, for the murder of Martha Agnew, at Ahoghill, on the 18th May last. Guilty of manslaughter.—To be transported for life. Newry Telegraph, 16 March 1839.
