Convict Notes
Mary was convicted in company of Thomas Ryan of breaking a silversmith's shop window and stealing 'plated salts and egg cups'. They were arrested in the street and sentenced to 7 years' transportation.(Freeman's Journal Dublin March 5 1799) She was placed on a prison hulk and the Anna St Luz months before it sailed from Cobh, during which time she formed a relationship with sailor Emmanual Pintox. Pintox sailed from Sydney on the'Anne'. Thomas Ambrose (2nd Fleet) employed Mary as a housekeeper, then maybe it became a defacto relationship. No records have been found of a marriage. Ambrose died at Wilberforce in 1813, before Mary began living with William Reynolds. She died at Wright's Ck. near St Albans and is buried in Our Lady of Loreto (ruins) churchyard there, with Reynolds and daughter Catherine.

Prior to being transported or aboard ship, it seems Mary may have had a de-facto relationship with one Emanuel Pintox resulting in the birth of a child, Emanuel. The child was born on board the Ship "Anne 1" and arrived in the colony aged about 2 months old. It was stated that the father was a 'seaman'. About 1804 Mary commenced living with Thomas Ambrose (Second Fleet Convict, Scarborough, 1790). In the 1806 Muster, Thomas Ambrose was recorded as working for Thomas Reilby and having Mary Madden as his housekeeper. Some records have the couple with 3 children, Thomas 1804, William 1808 and Catherine 1811. Other researchers claim only Thomas and Catherine. This relationship appears to have broken down around 1812/1813 and Mary is then living with William Reynolds (Convict, Admiral Barrington, 1791). William and Mary had a son, George born 1814. Mary is not located in the 1828 Census although William Reynolds [Ref R0532] and son George [Ref R0533] are both recorded.
