Daniel Mahoney was found guilty at the County Assizes of Cork in March or April 1794 of and received sentence of transportation for seven years. Of seven other men sentenced at the same assizes to transportation (five for the political crime of administering an unlawful oath, one for sheep stealing and one for house breaking) only one, John Brien was in fact transported to NSW, and on the same ship. Freemans Journal, Sat 17th May 1794 p3 "CORK, April 28th Last Saturday [i.e. 26th April] the assizes ended, when the following persons received sentence: IN THE COUNTY: “John Stack for cow stealing to be hanged on 28th May next; Daniel Mahoney for ditto to be transported for seven years …”
