Convict Notes
On Thursday morning, Martin Bulstrim, owner of a Galway sail boat, lying at the Long Dock, was found dead in the cabin. Same evening, the Mayor held an inquest on the body; the son and nephew of deceased were examined, and proved having opened the hatch of the small cabin, in the morning, and found their relative suffocated. Another person admitted having gone with two others, the night before into the cabin, where Bulstrim lay asleep. carried off a box of his, and then fastened down the hatch over his head . Mr. G. Ryan,. Apothecary to the Dispensary, was examined ; his belief was that the man died of suffocation ; he examined his person, and observed no marks of violence thereon. Surgeon Thwaites was also examined, and confirmed the testimony of Mr. Ryan. On a full consideration of the circumstances, the Jury found found a verdict that Martin Bulstrim expired of suffocation, Patrick Higgins and Edmond Rice having wilfully and maliciously closed the hatchment on him. Edmond Price, Patrick Higgins, and Michael Mahony, were found guilty of feloniously stealing money and wearing apparel, the property ofMartin Bulstrim, sen. and Martin Bulstrim, jun. Galway boatmen, at the Long Dock of Limerick, in October last. The capital indictment for the murder of Martin Bulstrim, the father, was not pressed by the Crown. To be transported for life.
