Convict Notes

As constable Chester was passing across the old burial ground two or three evenings ago, he picked up a certificate of freedom, purporting to be that of John Mahony, (7 years), per the "Borodino." No wonder complaints are made against the constabulary for occasionally detaining parties, when they are themselves, in many instances, so careless of their documentary protections. Sydney Gazette, 30 July 1836.

John Mahony was indicted for silver ? value ?, the property of J. D. Freeman, —and Margaret Mahony was indicted for receiving the same, knowing it to be stolen, The prisoners pleaded guilty, in order to be transported—their wishes were complied with. Cork Constitution, 25 Aug 1827.
