William MAIR was convicted at Glasgow 24 Apr 1835 for stealing money from a locked drawer. Previous conviction. 7yr sentence. Gaol Report: bad, connections respectable. Hulk Report: good. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Asia' arriving 21 Feb 1836. Ship's Report: In general, orderly but flogged once for insubordination. Aged 23yrs; wood & iron turner; 5'11". Native place: Glasgow Assignments in Colony. Ticket of Leave granted 10 Feb 1840 Conditional Pardon granted 14 Oct 1841 Certificate of Freedom granted 1842 (no. 318) 26 Sept 1845 Launceston, Tasmania, Supreme Court: Receiving 20 sheep, the property of Henry Stevenson. Further 7yr transportation sentence - to be sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement, for 2 yrs.
