Bartholomew Malone was an Irish Rebel transported to Australia in 1832 onboard the Dunvegan Castle. He was from Coolroe, Laois, Ireland and was convicted of assaulting the dwelling house of yeoman Thomas Terrott, along with his brother Michael Malone, cousins Thomas Delany and James Deegan, and Jeremiah Weire. He was also convicted of possession of firearms, as well as being part of a secret Irish agrarian organisation known as The Whiteboys at age 22. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation. His trial transcript is recorded in "A Report of Trials Before the Right Hon. the Lord Chief Justice, and the Hon Baron sir Wm c Smith bart" on pages 112-155. Upon arrival in Australia he was assigned to James Pye at Baulkham Hills and was listed as a ploughman. Bartholomew obtained his Certificate of Freedom on the 31st of May 1839. He had a relationship with fellow Irish Convict Margaret Parker who was transported from Louth, County Down, Northern Ireland onboard the ship Hooghly for stealing linen, which resulted in the birth of a daughter, in 1840 at Parramatta before Margarets death in 1843. Bartholomew then married Scottish immigrant, Isabella Boag in 1850 at Mudgee, resulting in the birth of 5 children. Convict indents state that Bartholomew was illiterate, Roman Catholic, 5'7 3/4 inches tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair, brown/dark hazel eyes, and a mole on his left cheek. Bartholomew was accidentally killed in 1860 when the wheel of his dray passed over his chest at Wentworth Falls. He was 49.
