Edward Malone was born in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland. He was tired in June 1847 at Dublin City, being convicted of stealing money and was sentenced to 7 years transportation. He was convicted of this offence twice before, spending both 6 months and 1 month in Gaol for similar offences against property and stealing. His relatives were listed as: f. James; m. Alice; b. Patrick, John, Michael; s. Maryanne; N.P. Convict Indents for Edward state he was a Catholic, could read a little, and was single at the time of his conviction in Ireland. On 31 January 1853, Edward was sentenced to six months hard labour for insolence and disobedience of orders. Edward was then assigned to Robert Baker of Brisbane Street on 21 June 1853. During his service to Baker, Edward was sentenced to a further 3 months hard labour on 21 July 1853 for misconduct in being in a public house and caught drunk with prostitutes and thieves. He also spent 6 months in the Cascade Factory Probation Station Work Gang at some stage during his sentence, most likely sometime at the start. On 3 October 1853, Edward was reassigned to Alexander Clarke at Longford where he would serve out the rest of his sentence. Edward received his Certificate of Freedom on 6 June 1854 and collected it at Longford. This was only 3 years after arriving, meaning he must have behaved and gotten a reduced sentence. He is then listed on the ship Lady Bird departing Launceston for Melbourne on 18 June 1854. He is recorded as having a Conditional Pardon and was in the Steerage section onboard. There are a few possible deaths for Edward, but none have been proven or connected to this Edward, so may not necessarily be this Edward Malone at all.
