David Malony was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes




The Convict Indentures states that David Malony was 23 years. He was 23 years old; religion Roman Catholic; status married (no children) and a native of Limerick. He was a plumber and glazier. David was convicted of stealing money on 6 October 1835 at Limerick City and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 5 inches; complexion dark ruddy; hair brown and eyes dark grey. Transport number 129. Prisoner number 36-1932. 1837 NSW General Census states that David Malony was assigned to 1) the Government in Sydney and ii) Col. Wall in Bathurst. Received ticket of leave on 13 November 1840 (number 40/2404) in the district of Bathurst. Please note that on this certificate the sentence is recorded as life when it should be 7 years. Received Certificate of Freedom on 5 December 1842 (42/2093). Convict Marriage Register states that permission was refused on 5 May 1842 to marry Mary Anne Barry arriving on the Paterson. Form submitted by Rev. W. O. Reilly. Obviously because he was still married.
