South Eastern Gazette 9 July 1833 - Ambrose Manewell age 33, charged with stealing from a barn at Buckland, 3 sacks of uncleaned wheat, the property of James Spencer Gorley -- Transported 7 Years. South Eastern Gazette 7 May 1833 - On Friday last Ambrose Manewell and William Newington were committed to the gaol at St Augustine's at Canterbury, by George Stringer Esq. charged on suspicion with entering the barn of Mr James Spencer Gorley, at Coombe Farm, Buckland, and having stolen 3 sacks of wheat. Upon searching Manewell's house (an obscure spot in the parish of Hawkinge) no less than 10 sacks of wheat, one sack of oats and two sacks of beans were found, the whole supposed to have been stolen from farmers in the neighbourhood of Dover.
