The humble petition of Thomas Mangan. 4 Oct 1824. Sheweth that Your Petitioner arrived in this colony in the year 1815 per ship Canada the 3rd time, for seven years and is free by servitude nearly four years. That your petitioner is desirous to spend the remainder of his life in this Colony and also to send for his family (wife and five children) and being desirous to establish himself in the agricultural line, having a perfect knowledge thereof. That your Petitioner flatters himself that his conduct since his arrival in this colony will be found irreproachable such as now emboldens him to approach your Excellency for a grant of land. Petitioner therefore Most respectfully Solicits your Excellency to be pleased to grant him such portion of land as to your Excellency may seem meet and Petitioner as in gratitude will ever pray, Thomas Mangan, Kent Street, Sydney, 29 Sept 1824. The above applicant has a good character. Signed, Thos Mamtie, J.P. The Petitioner so far as I can ascertain is considered a sober though not very active man. Signed, William Cowper. I believe the Memorialist to be a sober, honest and industrious man, John Joseph Therry, R.C.C. dated, 4 Oct 1824. An amendment to Thomas Mangan’s Petition of the 4th October. That on his arrival in this colony in the year 1815, his Excellency Governor Macquarie was then pleased to grant him a Ticket of Leave which he held unmolested until free by servitude. And also in the year 1817, granted him a Government Man (Francis Mangan, per Ship Pilot, Captain Paxton) who remained with Petitioner for 5 years free from any Expense to Government until Free by Servitude. That Petitioner is determined to keep at least one man free from any expense to every hundred acres your Excellency is pleased to grant him. Dated, 6 Dec 1824. -------------------------------------------------
