William Henry MANLEY married Johanna Higgins (age 16) in 1881 They settled and worked in the region of Blue Mount in the Central Highlands of Victoria. William Henry was a jack of all trades being a mill wright, forest worker, gold miner and sometime farmer. William Henry Manley died 1933 and is buried on Blue Mount. Johanna Manley nee Higgins died in 1920 and is buried in Trentham Cemetary.

Issue of the marriage of James and Aphra Manley 1. James born 2 August at Pyrenees (Avoca). Baptised 21 November 1949(?) in the Parish of Geelong County of Grant. 2. Margaret Sarah born 1852(?). Baptised 4 December 1852 in the Parish of St. Pauls Geelong in the County of Grant in the Colony of Victoria. The ‘abode’ (home) on the Baptism certificate is Ashby and James profession is listed as ‘carrier’. Married James Adams 1878, 7 children, died in 1909 at c. 57. Buried at the Necropolis Springvale 9th Ave. Sec. 9 No. 22 Salvation Army. 3. William Henry born 10 February 1855 at Merideth (near Geelong) District of Buninyong. William Henry died in 1933 and is buried on Blue Mount near Trentham with his children Aphra (who died in 1989 at 1 yr old) and James Henry (who is thought to have died at c. 5yrs). There are no burial dates on the grave and all records for Blue Mount Cemetary have been destroyed by fire.

Although James and Aphra were both concurrent at Yarra Bend Asylum (for a short two month duration from May to July 1891 before James death), they were not re-united. The sexes were probably kept in separate wards and from extant documents it appears that details of their married status remained unknown to the Asylum Officials of the time.

Married: With consent of the Governor of the day, James, (then 30) married a 26 year old free immigrant, Aphrasia Pratt from Queens County Ireland (Laois) on 5 March 1847 at St. James Cathedral Melbourne. They were couple no. 975 to marry in this church.

James Manley, Thomas Eglington, and Eliza his wife, for burglary at Sydling St. Nicholas, on the 11th instant (Assizes). Sherborne Mercury, 25 March 1833. James Manley and Thos. Eglington, for a burglary in the dwelling-house of Thos. Toms, of Sydling St. Nicholas, death recorded: Eliza Eglington, tried with the above, was acquitted. Salisbury Journal, 29 July 1833.

ADM 101/34/8 . Medical and surgical journal of the convict ship Hive from 18 November 1833 to 27 June 1834 by George Fairfowl, surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed transporting convicts to New South Wales. Folio 14: James Manley, aged 16, convict; case number 17; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 27 March 1834. Discharged 1 April 1834.

He was born in Wimborne Minster. His occupation was a Tinman or Tinker. He was granted a Ticket of Leave on the 13th of January 1844 at the age of 74. He was 17 years old when he arrived and he could read and write.
