On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. Sydney Gazette, Sat 7 Jun 1817. -------------------------------------------------- Convicts who sailed on the 'Mary' direct from Ireland - 1819 & 1836 - are currently being listed, incomplete data to date.

Some of the information listed above does not appear upfront on her record. EG, her arrival on board the "Mary". She was first convicted at Lewes, at age 12 years for stealing gloves, bracelets and other items and sentenced to a Fortnight hard Labour Her son Richard was born in 1835, 3 years prior to her marriage to Richard Hume.

Harriet Manners was 15 years old when convicted of stealing wearing apparel from her employer, she was 16 or 17 on arrival in VDL. Harriet was the daughter of Henry Manners and Jane Turle. Harriet was 5’4” tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, single, protestant, reads. 1832: Assigned to Mr P Dean 1833: Assigned to Mrs Howe 1835: Assigned to Mr Shultz 25/2/1845: TOL October 1846: CP approved. 26/3/1838: Married Richard Hume (Richard Hume ( born 16 Dec 1812 ) arrived in Tasmania 18 Jan 1823 aboard The Brig "Urnia " with his father James Hume and stepmother Martha (nee ) Carmicheal, and died 7/12/18887 at Glen Dhu, Launceston, Tasmania). They had 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters. 14/6/1897: Harried died at Lawrence Vale, Launceston.
