NSW 1828 Census Index. Patrick Manning, age 50, G.S. per Eliza, 1827, 7 years, catholic, Labourer, Henry Hewith, Patricks Plains.




Patrick Manning, Michael Manning, and John Manning, stood indicted for stealing three cows, the property of Michael M'Carthy.—Mr. M'Carthy swore that three cows were stolen off farm belonging to him near Midleton, and that he afterwards got them with Mr. Richard Tivy, the Constable—Mr. Tivy swore that, on Sunday night, the 15ih of March, about half-past seven o'clock, he observed the prisoners passing the New Barracks, having three cows with them; suspecting that the cows were not got honestly, he took both the cows and the men Into custody. The same cows which he secured then, Mr. McCarthy saw the following morniing, and claimed his own property. Patrick Manning confessed to him in the gaol that ...ming and himself had gone to Midleton together ; that Manning brought the three cows off M'Carthy’s land, and that both of them drove them towards Cork. Patrick Manning assured him that his brother Michael was innocent of the transaction, from all he could collect, he believed him to be so. All the prisoners received good characters. Verdict—Michael Manning, not Guilty, Pat. Manning and John Manning— Guilty. Cork Constitution, 12 April 1827.
