Limerick Assizes. THE COUNTY LIMERICK COURT. To be transported for 7 years —Michael Mara for stealing notes and silver from Patrick Dundon at Rathkeale; Southern Reporter, 25 March 1828. This day, the following prisoners, sentenced at the Assizes, were transmitted under an escort of the 37th Regiment, to the Hulk Surprise at Cove:— Edward Carroll, for Rape; James Blake, Horse stealing; William Daly, Larceny ; Martin Ryan, same; John Connors, Pig stealing Michael Mara, Thomas Hayes, John Ward, Patrick Callaghan, Mathew Callaghan, and Jeremiah Sullivan, all for Larceny ; Denis Gorman, Pig stealing.  Limerick Evening Post, 6 May 1828.

The Convict Indentures state that Michael Mara was 24 years old. H could neither read or write; religion Catholic; status single and a native of Waterford. He was a Labourer. He was convicted at Limerick on 15 March 1828 of robbing person and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height - 5 feet 6 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy; hair dark brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 171. Assigned to the Mr Moran, Hunter's River. Received ticket of leave in 1834 (number 34/1105). Received Certificate of Freedom in 1835 (number 35/53).
