Convict Notes
Stealing by a servant. Margaret Waters, indicted for feloniously stealing several articles, the property of her master, Mr, Robert Pooler, at Newry, in May last. Robert Pooler— Lost sundry articles; silver spoons, table cloths, handkerchiefs, stockings &c. in the month of May last, and previous thereto; prisoner was his servant; went to her residence and found some articles, viz, 3 pair of stockings marked on the foot, and several pocket handkerchiefs; knows them to be his property; found a silver spoon, his property, in the office of Mr. Murphy, pawnbroker, Newry. Charles Murphy, sworn—ls a pawnbroker; lives in Newry; prisoner pawned the tea-spoon with him in the month of May last; Mr., Pooler, on seeing the spoon, identified it as his property.— Guilty. Mr. Pooler recommended the prisoner to mercy ; but the Judge, in order that the example might have a salutary effect on others in her situation of life, pronounced sentence of transportation of transportation for 7 years.
