John Martin was tried at Bangalore General Courtmartial, India. He was a Soldier/Cabinetmaker, and single and 28 years old. He was a Soldier in the Horse Artillery. John's native place was Clare County. No records found.
Born in County Clare, Ireland about 1812. Sentenced at Banglore India on 15 Nov 1840. After his mate Alfred Goggin was taken by a shark off Cockatoo Island, John Martin was immediately sent per the brig Governor Phillip to Norfolk Island, arriving 1 June 1841. He stayed there until 23 Feb 1844, when he was sent to VDK on the Duke of Richmond 2, arriving 3 March 1844. He was one of 2 x John Martin's on this ship, his occupation was stated as the Cabinet Maker. He obtained his Ticket of Leave in 1844, he then married convict Catherine Moriarty (also from Ireland) in 1846 & had 6 children. Free certificate issued on 7 Oct 1848. He died before 1881.
