Convict Notes
Cork Assizes Mary Connell, alias Stephenson, indicted for stealing yards muslin, value 6s. 8d. from Mr. Joseph Thornton. Prisoner, it was proved, asked for, and got, half a yard calico. Mr. Thornton missed piece muslin, which said Mrs. Tbornton found prisoner’s person, thrust on her back. Mrs. S. Thornton sworn—.Saw the piece of muslin under the cloak of prisoner; and prisoner struggled for it when was discovered. Guilty—To transported for 7 years, being a noted shoplifter. Southern Reporter, 31 March 1829.
