Mary Dixon was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Convict Notes
The Convict Indentures state that Mary Dixon alias Morrissy was 28 years old. She could read; religion Roman Catholic; status married (no children stated)and a native of County Kildare. She was a kitchen maid. Mary was convicted on 16 March 1838 at Queen's County of passing forged notes and sentenced to 14 years. She had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 1 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair light brown and eyes bluish. Transport number 142. Prisoner number 140-39. Comment on indentures that Husband Samuel Dixon a prisoner on the William Jardine.
