Mary's mother had been previously transported also from York, but as Mary was married to a Peter Gray, Shoemaker of Hull, we do not know the name of Mary's mother! Mary went on to Hobart with half the convicts from the Providence, and married Joseph Clayton (Maria 1821) in Hobart 11 March 1822 about 2 months later! Joseph and Mary Clayton had 8 children and settled Perth, Tas from about 1827 when they went north from Hobart. Both Mary and Joseph lived long and productive lives and died in Perth, Tas at 85 and 92 years respectively. Mary's Death Notice in the Examiner states that she was the "wife of a Gentleman".
