Mary Horrell, was a prisoner from Devonshire who was 14 years old when she was convicted of stealing a muslin apron and handkerchief and sentenced to 7 years transportation. On the trip, she met William Eckford, who was a seaman aboard the ship 'Earl Cornwallis'. William was much older than Mary 27 years her senior! However, over the next 20 years they did have 9 children, 7 of whom lived quite long lives. Please Note That William is often referred to as a convict. However, he came free on 'Earl Cornwallis, as a seaman and was subsequently convicted of sheep theft in the colony and received a sentence of Life here.
